If Harriette Thompson doesn't make you want to get your butt in gear, than nothing will. The 91-year-old woman ran and completed yesterday's (Sunday) San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon.
Thompson ran on behalf of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and did so despite having recently undergone radiation treatment. She completed the race in just over seven minutes and actually broke the record for her age group. She says "It wasn't until around the 17th mile that I was going uphill, and I was thinking, 'Oh, I wonder if I'm gonna make this.' But the last few miles, I didn't mind at all."
Thompson, who ran her first marathon at age 76, says you're never too old to start and she plans to run the San Diego marathon again next year. Today (Monday), aside from recovering from the race, she's celebrating her 67th wedding anniversary with her husband.
