The Met Gala took over New York City on Monday (May 6) as celebrities arrived to the nature-themed carpet in style, from Met Gala co-chair Zendaya's show-stopping look to Kim Kardashian's extreme corset dress and Gigi Hadid, who needed a full team to help her walk.

If you were online and paying attention to all the fashionable looks, you also likely saw viral photos of Katy Perry wearing a couple of looks that perfectly nailed the night's theme of "The Garden of Time" for the Costume Institute's new exhibit "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening fashion" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There's only one problem — the photos aren't real.

The "Firework" singer took to her Instagram on Monday share a couple of AI-generated photos of her that went viral during the Met Gala. In the first pic, Perry appears to be wearing a off-the-shoulder ballgown covered in flowers and butterflies with a trim that looks like moss. The second fake photo shows Perry in a bronze bodice fastened with a key and a skirt made of green vines and flowers. While the images may look real at first glance, many eagle-eyed fans were quick to point out that the beige and red-trimmed carpet in the first photo didn't match the green and off-white carpet of this year's Met Gala, proving that the photo was not real.

Perry also shared a screenshot of a text exchange with her mom who also saw the photos and thought they were real, sweetly telling her daughter, "Ha Feather! Didn't know you went to the Met. What a gorgeous gown, you look like the Rose Parade, you are your own float lol," before Perry responded, "lol mom the AI got you too, BEWARE!"

The American Idol judge also seemingly teased new music with a clip of her singing and dancing in a studio, writing in the caption that she "couldn't make it to the MET [because she] had to work."

Perry is no stranger to being memed and even had her own moment in the spotlight during the coronation of King Charles III in 2023 when she both appeared to be bored during the ceremony and struggled to find her seat.
