Brandon Flowers Of The Killers Talks New Music, Quarantine And More!

The Killers released their last album "Wonderful Wonderful" 3 years ago and now they're back with a new album "Imploding The Mirage" coming out August 21st. The album was originally supposed to be released in May, but the pandemic caused them to push the album back. Brandon Flowers of The Killers called into Valentine in the Morning to talk about the new album, quarantine, and Jill revealed why she couldn't listen to The Killers for a very long time!

The Killers are originally from Vegas, but Brandon and his family moved to Utah in 2017 calling this new period of life “the calm after the storm and the celebration of perseverance.” The newfound freedom is the inspiration of the album “Imploding The Mirage.”

"We started this before quarantine, but when everything got shut down we were just in the mixing process so we were pretty lucky in that respect. Most of it was recorded. We've never had this happen before and i'm very accustomed to finishing a record and then hitting the road right away. It's strange having that pulled out from under you, but what's kind of been a blessing in some ways is that I kept writing, which i've never done before. You kind of get in the motive of writing and then leave so it was kind of interesting how many songs came after the record was finished and how easily they came because I think I was exercising those muscles already. I think we'll have a quick turnaround and have another album out very soon."

Jill couldn't listen to The Killers for a very long time because her ex-boyfriend was OBSESSED with their music so when they broke up she had to stop listening. She ended up confessing this to Brandon!

"You know it's sad, but that's understandable. Maybe with time, you'll come back around and be more into The Killers."

Jill is totally fine now and the good news is she can listen to their music again, which made Brandon happy.

Brandon has been in quarantine with his wife and 3 sons in Utah, while most people have probably gone crazy by now, he's loving it.

"I love it. I mean when i'm not on tour and i'm at home, I try to devote as much time as I can so I kind of settled right in to the quarantine situation. It's nice. I feel a little bit spoiled saying it. Whether I would've been at work or they would've been at school all of that stuff kind of stopped and you're with them all the time, it just felt natural. They're my blood and we love each other and I ended up really liking it. With my wife, one of my favorite lines from a Journey song is 'I get the joy of rediscovering you' and he's talking about road life and how you're away from your family all of the time. So I always think that's one of the most romantic lines that Steve Perry ever wrote so I kind of experience that being home so much for the last 5 or 6 months."

Just like parents across the country, Brandon and his wife had to deal with distance learning with his boys.

"My 13 year old, he became independent and was able to handle it on his own and then me and my wife, we feel like we failed. We're going to try to figure it out."
