Country singer Chase Rice is under fire after performing an in-person concert in Tennessee over the weekend. While artists are finding new ways to perform like doing drive-in concerts to ensure the health and safety of their fans is the main priority during the pandemic, the Chase Rice concert showed the exact opposite. The concert was a packed outdoor show with no sign of social distancing or masks. The singer posted a a video on his Instagram story showing the crowd with the caption "We back." Brian May, the Vice President of the Brushy Mountain Group, which hosted the Chase Rice concert at the Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary told Variety that "all local requirements were abided by for the recent concert, and numerous precautions were taken." He continued to say,
"We drastically reduced our maximum venue capacity of 10,000 to 4,000 maximum capacity (lower than the state's advisement of 50%) with less than 1,000 in attendance Saturday night, providing ample space in the outdoor lawn area for fans to spread out to their own comfort level."
All guests were given temperature checks before entering the venue, there was free hand sanitizer, and guests could buy bandanas on-site. Of course, since it was a concert fans weren't social distancing. He noted that different protocols will be considered for future shows. While the concert footage is now viral and there's tons of people with different opinions on the situation, one person very upset is country star Kelsea Ballerini. She tweeted "Imagine being selfish enough to put thousands of people's health at risk, not to mention the potential ripple effect, and play a NORMAL country concert right now."
