Fight Holiday Creep With “Holiday Jargon Jar” like a swear jar only better

While some people don’t think the holiday season should kick off until after we’ve celebrated Thanksgiving, others, especially retailers, are big proponents of the holiday creep, sharing holiday ads and more way before the season is officially upon us. Well, now eBay is doing something about it, and it’s all for a good cause.

The online marketplace has pledged a commitment to “Holiday Chill,” and is fighting back against the holiday creep with what they’re calling the “Holiday Jargon Jar.” From now until Giving Tuesday, December 3rd, eBay will scan 2,000 major brands on Twitter for the top 100 holiday buzzwords like “Jingle,” “Mistletoe” “Snowman,” “Menorah” and more. Each time a retailer uses one of those words, eBay will donate one dollar to their Jargon Jar. Consumers can also get in on the action, alerting eBay to such jargon by tagging such instances with the hashtag, #HolidayJargon and following@HolidayJargonon Twitter.

Then, once Giving Tuesday is upon us, eBay will donate the money from the Jar (up to $50,000) toSCORE, the nation’s largest network of volunteer, expert business mentors who help small businesses achieve their goals.Click herefor more info.
