Friday Free fer ALL: Weezer Released Covers Album

Weezer has taken the craze around their hit “Africa” cover to the next level. The band just surprised fans by dropping a covers album.

“Weezer,” known as “The Teal Album,” is the band’s fifth self-titled album (their sixth, “The Black Album,” is due for release in March). The tracklist includes covers of hits by Tears For Fears, Eurythmics, A-ha, The Turtles, Black Sabbath, Electric Light Orchestra, TLC, Michael Jackson, and Ben E. King… and of course, “Africa” by Toto.

ONE MORE THING! It looks like TLC's Rozanda "Chilli" Thomas caught wind of Weezer's cover of "No Scrubs"... and she wants to perform it live with the band! Speaking to Rolling Stone, Chilli says she didn't hear about the cover until the album dropped and thinks the band did a "great job." "I totally get why any girl would [cover the song], but when guys do it I go, 'Clearly, they're not scrubs," she adds. "If they were scrubs, they wouldn't sing the song with this type of confidence."

• “Africa” (Toto, 1982)• “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” (Tears For Fears, 1985)• “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” (Eurythmics, 1983)• “Take On Me” (A-ha, 1984)• “Happy Together” (The Turtles, 1967)• “Paranoid” (Black Sabbath, 1970)• “Mr. Blue Sky” (Electric Light Orchestra, 1977)• “No Scrubs” (TLC, 1999)• “Billie Jean” (Michael Jackson, 1982)• “Stand By Me” (Ben E. King, 1961)
