Meghan Markle Broke Royal Tradition By Giving Her Own Wedding Speech

It's been just over two years since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot yet new details about their nuptials are still being revealed. In the new biography about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Finding Freedom, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand confirmed the rumors that Meghan broke royal tradition at her wedding reception and gave a speech.

Sobie and Durand's confirmation was published in Hello! and was accompanied by an explainer from the British tabloid that "typically, English royal weddings include a speech from the best man, the host and occasionally the groom, but rarely the bride." Unfortunately, the biography didn't share anything about the contents of Meghan's speech. Back in 2018, however, Us Weekly spoke to a source who claimed Meghan told her guests she knew Harry was "the one" as soon they met.

In addition to sharing their sweet love-at-first-sight meeting, Meghan reportedly also referenced her split from first husband Trevor Engelson. According to the source, the Duchess of Sussex gushed that "finding love was worth the wait" and she couldn't wait to start the next chapter of their lives together.

A close friend of the couple, Janina Gavankar, shared details about Harry's own reception speech in an interview with Town and Country. "The speech that Harry gave was so funny," she dished. "Self-deprecating, filled with love, and that guy just has her back. I left feeling so solid for them. I walked away feeling confident that these two will put their combined power into the world for good."
