(College Station, TX) The 41st President of the United States, George Herbert Walker Bush was laid to rest today on the grounds of his Presidential Library in College Station. He joins his wife of 74 years, Barbara Bush, who died on April 17, 2018 at the age of 92 and hos daughter Robin. President George W. Bush, in his eulogy to his father, said, "In his older age, Dad liked to watch re-runs of police shows, but he was always holding Mom's hand." That quote described the type of relationship he and Barbara had.
The Union Pacific "Engine 4141" train carrying the body of the former President rolled through Navasota, Millican, Wellborn and then into College Station right on time at 3:45pm.
Thousands of people from around the world came to pay their respects to the former President. However, local residents were also among the throngs of people that lined George Bush Drive in drizzling rain to pay their respects. Miranda Orsak from College Station said, "It's just really an honor to be here to witness this nationally historical event for our former President and I couldn't be prouder to stand here even if it is raining and cold."
Just a bit of chaos on the ground in College Station when bystanders heard the train whistle and decided to break through barricades to get a closer look, however, they were quickly stopped by College Station Police.
VIP members of the Bush Funeral party included, Dr. Ray M. Bowen, Former A&M President, Chancellor John S. Sharp, Texas A&M Chancellor, Mr. R.C. Slocum, Former Texas A&M Coach, President Michael K. Young, A&M President, and The Texas A&M Corps of Cadets and so many more.
