Hip Hop and R&B struggle to find their footing in the everyday streets of Austin, TX, but during SXSW, one would deem the music capital is just as diverse as its’ neighboring Houston or Dallas.
SXSW 2018 did not spare any expense on legendary panelists, such as R&B artist, producer and songwriter Teddy Riley as well as current chairman of Revolt TV and former Uptown Records CEO, Andre Harrell.
Riley and Harrell fronted the “New Jack Swing: The Renaissance of Hip Hop” panel, Wednesday evening of the conference.
Ashlee On-Air and DJ Hella Yella sat down with the two legendary pioneers of the New Jack Swing sound to speak about cultural appropriation, the different factions of the R&B genre today, whether an R&B group would thrive in today’s musical climate and more.
