Looks like MTV's stepping up their social voting game - with the introduction of Snapchat Voting for the 2017 Woodies in Austin, TX during SXSW 2017.

New York, NY (March 6, 2017) – MTV today announced four categories and nominees for the 2017 edition of the “MTV Woodies.” Voting, which will take place exclusively on Snapchat, in an MTV awards show first, opens today with best “Cover Woodie” before continuing with a new category each day through Thursday, March 9.
Winners will be revealed at the 13th annual “MTV Woodies,” hosted by multiplatinum, rap legend, Rick Ross and airing LIVE on Thursday, March 16 at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT from Austin, Texas during South by Southwest Music Festival. Fans will be able to vote for each award by taking a screenshot of their favorite artist on Snapchat. Fans are encouraged to join the conversation around their favorite Woodies artists as part of an MTV Woodies and REESE’S Peanut Butter Cups engagement campaign anchored in fans “co-signing” artists who they think are about to break. Kicking off on March 9 and extending into the Woodies broadcast on March 16, fans will be asked to cosign their favorite performer from this year’s Woodie’s festival lineup, using a custom hashtag paired with a microphone emoji (i.e. #WoodiesCosignARTIST + 🎤) which qualifies them for a chance to win a free music subscription. The top mentioned fan cosign will be revealed on-air during the LIVE “2017 MTV Woodies”.
All performers will be announced at a later date. The “MTV Woodies” is a yearly event that spotlights an eclectic roster of emerging artists across musical genres. The 2016 line-up boasted Anderson Paak & The Free Nationals, A$AP Ferg, BØRNS, The Chainsmokers, CHVRCHES, Jack Garratt, Jidenna, Kehlani and Lukas Graham. Past “MTV Woodies” performers include Wiz Khalifa, Twenty One Pilots, Sam Smith, Iggy Azalea, Steve Aoki, Foo Fighters, Odd Future, The 1975, Childish Gambino, Santigold and Mac Miller.
